The subway was scrapped because the oil prices went down making the government not have the money to support financially Petro’s metro. Transmilenio in the other hand hasn’t had new investments in infrastructure since its debut and Petro didn’t replace the old fleet. The current administration is working on the fleet which would be electrical or gas. Of 1200 buses of the original system (articulated) are getting replaced with 900 articulated buses with capacity of 250 passengers each. Also with the new fleet, stations will receive upgrades to make them bigger an compatible with biarticulated busses. Peñalosa’s metro is being estructured with new complementary TM lines to feed it. Also of 15 stations, 10 will be interconnected with TM stations and all manage the same fee.

I used the taxi most of the time. I really enjoyed reading the article. I tried mass transit tourism in Caracas myself, also in 2009. Caracas then had a cable car system that complements the subway system. It takes passengers from Bellas Artes subway station up into the barrios of San Augustine, one of the poorest and dangerous in Caracas. I’d stop at each cable car station, get out and take some photos and then wait for the next cab. The cable cars hung so close to the hillside you could almost see into peoples homes.
With the economic crisis in Venezuela today, I wonder if the cable cars are still working.

It would be great to add overhead rail in Bogota, but please combine it with fixing some of the horrendous roads!
